Defeat for Bucks Men in Northumberland

Report: Michael Knox

Image: Andy Bone, Sports Shots

Bucks Men suffered their first defeat of the season in the National Counties Cluberly Championship as they went down by eight wickets to Northumberland in their Eastern Division One match at Benwell Hill on Tuesday.

In a match of fluctuating fortunes, the hosts eventually reached their victory target of 221 with nearly nine overs to spare.

Following a delayed start of almost four hours due to rain on Sunday, Bucks initially struggled after choosing to bat first.

They were revived by a ninth-wicket partnership of 76 between Ed Bragg, who recorded a Bucks career-best 57, and skipper Conner Haddow (42), helping them reach 257 from 80.

That total proved enough to give Bucks a first-innings lead of 45 as the hosts slipped from 86-1 to 212 all out, despite 57 from Ross Whitfield.

Bucks failed to build on that advantage.

With plenty of time to reach their target of 221, Northumberland were rarely troubled thanks to a splendid unbeaten 106 from Sol Bell, supported by Bushnell's unbeaten 57.

Bucks, who comfortably beat Staffordshire in their opening Eastern Division One match, will look to return to winning ways when they entertain Suffolk at Chesham in a three-day match starting this Sunday.

Wani Wickets Wins It for Bucks Women

Image: Luke Stafford, Sports Shots

Zaynah Wani starred with an incredible six-wicket haul for Bucks Women as they successfully defended 152 against Wiltshire on Sunday in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Wiltshire won the toss and elected to bowl.

Woodward played nicely, punishing the bad balls, and made her way to 21 before finding mid-on with a lofted shot, leaving Bucks Women 46/2 after 10 overs.

Mohamed pushed on alongside Cara Duggan, and the pair took Bucks past three figures before Duggan and Carys Gerber both fell in the 20th over, leaving the hosts 104/4.

Mohamed was bowled shortly afterwards for a brilliant 63 from 73 balls, and Bucks looked to be in big trouble as they collapsed from 113/4 to 124/9 in a matter of overs.

With their backs against the wall, Charlie Mailey and Tash MacBean dug in and put together what proved to be a match-defining 10th-wicket partnership of 28.

MacBean (8) was the final wicket to fall for Bucks, while Mailey finished 13 not out to take her side to 152 all out from 37 overs.

With a relatively low target to defend, the bowling effort had to be special, and special it was from Wani.

Katie Dolman (5) and Isla Thomson (6) were both dismissed by debutant Katie Wolfe, but opener Emma Godman guided her side to the halfway mark in the run chase.

That was until Wani beat Godman's bat and dismissed the opener for 35.

From there, a flurry of wickets from spinners Wani, Eva Lewis and MacBean reduced Wiltshire to 119/8, leaving the visitors needing another 34 runs to win.

Jemima Carroll played brilliantly for 23 and brought the travelling side within 18 runs before MacBean claimed a caught and bowled.

With 17 runs still needed, Wani wrapped up her stellar bowling performance with her sixth and final wicket, sealing a fantastic win for Bucks Women at High Wycombe CC.

Weymes Sparks Victory for Bucks Men

Match Report - Michael Knox

Image - Andy Bone, Sports Shots

Bucks Men began the defence of their National Counties Cluberly Championship title with a resounding 187-run win over Staffordshire in their Eastern Division 1 match at Chesham on Tuesday.

A stellar all-round performance from Bertie Foreman and excellent bowling displays from skipper Conner Haddow plus seamers Tom Weymes and Ed Bragg saw Bucks home with more than three hours to spare in this three-day match.

It did not look good for Bucks on the first morning when they slipped to 36-4 after choosing to bat first.

The Staffordshire top order also struggled, slumping to 44-5 against inspired bowling from Weymes and Bragg.

At the age of 35, Weymes (5-56) returned his first five-wicket haul for Bucks and was later awarded his county cap.

In their second innings, Bucks built on their lead with most batters passing 20.

This left Staffordshire all the final day to reach their formidable target of 385.

But it all went wrong after lunch as they lost four wickets for one run in 17 balls to the spin of Foreman and Haddow.

Five players made their Championship debuts for Bucks, namely Pardoe, Foreman, Josh Lincoln, Aum Raykar and new signing from Middlesex, Aaryan Sawant.

Bucks Men's next game in the Championship is against Northumberland on July 26-28.

Cara Caps 100th Appearance with Victory

Before play on Sunday, Cara Duggan was presented with a milestone Bucks Women's cap at High Wycombe CC in recognition of being the first ever Bucks Women's player to reach the 100 appearances for the county, ahead of the Bucks Women v Shropshire match.

Bucks Cricket CEO Rich Hudson said during the presentation: "This marks a special piece of Bucks history as Cara becomes the first player to reach 100 appearances for Bucks Women.

"To have a leader who has come all the way through our pathway, who is so passionate about representing Bucks, supporting the group and welcoming new players, has been outstanding.

"Seeing players go on to compete at the highest level is always special, but having someone demonstrate this level of commitment and quality for Bucks is just as important.

Women's Lead Coach Ben Ungaretti could not be prouder of Duggan: "Congratulations to Cara on reaching the incredible milestone of 100 caps.

"Working with Cara for the past three years, it has been a privilege to see first-hand the commitment, passion and professionalism she brings to the team.

"Her dedication to improving herself and helping those around her has been clear throughout my time with the team.

"Reaching 100 caps is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work and commitment she has shown over many years.

"Congratulations, Cara, on a truly deserved milestone.

As for the match action, Bucks displayed a brilliant run chase after a tough 50 overs toiling away in the heat, and came out comfortable victors over Shropshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Shropshire won the toss and elected to bat.

Just 2 overs later, Bucks claimed the wicket of Olivia Smith (4), with MacBean pegging back the travelling side to 41/2.

Shropshire weren't pegged back for long, as Millie Parry and Sastry put together a 54-run partnership in just 8 overs, bringing them just shy of 100 inside 16 overs.

Hannah Davis was next to make the breakthrough for Bucks, trapping Parry (14) lbw.

With Bucks creating some strong pressure, Shropshire showed resilience, and built another strong partnership through Lara Jones and Alex Hale.

The partnership was worth 59 before Davis was once again in the wickets column with another lbw - Alex Hale dismissed for a well-made 21 from 45 balls.

Despite the wickets, runs continued to flow for Shropshire, and Jones was smashing boundaries alongside Harriet Shuker (23).

With only a few overs remaining, Tegan Stockdale's over saw 2 wickets fall in 1 over, but with Captain Jones batting until the end, finishing on 63 not out and taking Shropshire to 268 from their 50 overs.

In return, Bucks were superb.

It was fitting to see Duggan take her team over the line, and doing so with plenty of boundaries of her own.

Bucks Women secured their first Metro Bank One Day Cup victory of the season by 5 wickets, and chased the total in 44.

Image: Andy Bone, Sports Shots

A series of outstanding batting performances powered Bucks Men to two victories over Wales NC in their National Counties Dojo T20 Cup double-header at Marlow on Sunday, securing second place in Group 3.

The two wins book Bucks' place in the Super 12s on Sunday 9 August, where they will face Wiltshire at Exeter CC.

Batting first in both matches, Bucks made the most of an excellent pitch, posting totals of more than 200 on each occasion, to which their opponents had no answer.

Put into bat in the first game, Bucks hammered a record 235-7 thanks to an astonishing innings from Josh Lincoln, who made 81 from just 28 balls, including seven sixes and seven fours.

The young Welsh side struggled in response to the onslaught and were bowled out for 103 in 13.

Bucks again chose to bat in the second game but soon slipped to 5-2.

Wales made a much better fist of the chase this time as Ollie King (60) and Sam King (49) put them in a strong position at 127-2 in the 13th over.

Bucks begin the defence of their National Counties Cluberly Championship title when they face Staffordshire in a three-day Division One East match at Chesham, starting this Sunday.

Raykar Stars in Middlesex Defeat

Report: Michael Knox

Image: Luke Stafford, Sports Shots

A brilliant innings by teenager Aum Raykar could not prevent Bucks Men from suffering an eight-wicket defeat against a strong Middlesex team in this year's NCCA Showcase match at Wormsley Estate on Thursday.

The 19-year-old former Great Brickhill batter, who now plays for Moseley in the Birmingham League, scored a stylish 85 to rescue Bucks from a potentially low total.

Choosing to bat first on a fast, bouncy pitch with a lightning outfield, Middlesex's promising quick bowler Naavya Sharma pegged Bucks back to 33-5.

Particularly strong off the back foot, Raykar found support from Ed Bragg and Ryan Friend, but at 89-7 Bucks were still in trouble.

Raykar, who struck one six and ten fours, found good support from skipper Conner Haddow in an eighth-wicket of 88 in 18 overs.

With a century beckoning, Raykar was well caught in the deep for 85, while Haddow made 32 off 69 balls as Bucks were bowled out for 196 off the last ball of their 50th over.

This was a fine score considering their earlier plight, but the strong Middlesex side chased the total in style.

The son of former England captain Michael Atherton, de Caires reached his century off just 72 balls.

He and Nathan Fernandes (71 not out from 58 balls) added 180 for the first wicket in 21.

Haddow had the consolation of dismissing former England batter Sam Robson before Middlesex eased home on 199-2 from 25.

Bucks Men are next in action at Marlow this Sunday, when they entertain Wales NC in a National Counties T20 double-header, hoping to secure their place in the Super 12s.

Captain Conner Haddow had high praise for Aum Raykar: "It was nice to see Aum return to form, especially after such a tough start to the year for him.

Duggan Defiant Against Defending Champions

Image: Laura Gates

Bucks Women came away from Neston Cricket Club with plenty of pride despite a 110-run defeat to Lancashire Thunder in the Vitality County T20 Cup.

Zaynah Wani returned figures of 2-30 and captain Cara Duggan struck a brilliant unbeaten 54 against the defending champions, but Bucks ultimately fell short against a strong Lancashire side.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, openers Eve Jones (64) and Emma Lamb (35) got Lancashire off to a flying start, reaching 62-0 at the end of the powerplay.

The hosts were on top from the early stages, but Bucks continued to fight.

Wani was not done there.

Seren Smale then came to the crease and quickly found her rhythm with two boundaries in four balls.

With two new batters at the crease, Bucks had an opportunity to build pressure during the remaining overs, but Fellows' namesake and university teammate Kesteven had other ideas.

After a tidy first over from Lewis, Kesteven smashed 25 runs from her next over, shifting the momentum back in Lancashire's favour.

With four overs remaining, Molly Carter took the ball for Bucks and wasted no time in claiming a wicket of her own.

Kesteven continued to motor along and brought up her half-century from just 21 balls.

The fight from Bucks remained throughout and was evident again when MacBean dismissed Morris in the deep, with Rosie Burton-Pye taking a good catch in the final over.

Faced with a big chase, Lancashire were quick to impose their quality with the ball.

The challenge was on for Annie Townsend and Duggan, and after batting through the powerplay unbeaten, the pair took on Dani Collins and struck 16 runs from the ninth over.

Unfortunately, the third-wicket partnership was broken shortly afterwards as Townsend (23) fell to Venus Weerappuli, caught at long-on by Norris, leaving Bucks 51/3 at the halfway stage.

Fellows (4) was the next to depart after going aerial against Morris, but Duggan remained undeterred, smashing Norris for six in the following over.

Tegan Stockdale (12) was beginning to settle into her innings until she lost her balance, allowing Smale to complete a sharp stumping.

Wani (3) fell late in the innings to debutant Olivia Brinsden, but the skipper continued to fight until the end.

Duggan took a single from the first ball of the final over and sealed a historic moment for herself and Bucks Cricket.

Lightning secured a 110-run victory, but Bucks bowed out of the Vitality County T20 Cup with a performance they can be proud of.

<a href="https://live.

Captain Cara Duggan was immensely proud of her team: 'Sunday was an incredible experience for everyone involved.

We approached the game like any other and gave it our best.

Our batting was consistent throughout, with Annie giving us a great start and providing a platform for the rest of the innings.

I couldn't be prouder of the girls.

The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible.

Our thanks go to Lancashire for hosting us and creating such a brilliant day of cricket and experience for Bucks Women.

Honours Even Between Bucks and Berkshire

Report: Michael Knox

Image: Andy Bone, Sports Shots

Bucks Men's skipper Conner Haddow produced a spectacular spell to help his team win the first of their double-header against Berkshire in the Dojo National Counties T20 Cup at Wokingham on Sunday.

The High Wycombe left-arm spinner returned the stunning figures of 6-9 from four overs to bowl Bucks to a 42-run victory.

His spell - one of the best in the competition's history - dismissed the hosts for 91 in 17 overs.

However, Berkshire turned the tables dramatically in the second game, hammering Bucks by a massive 133 runs.

Choosing to bat first, Berkshire were given a flying start by Johnny Connell, who thrashed 84 from 40 balls with four sixes and 11 fours.

In reply, Bucks Men collapsed ignominiously from 23-0 to 67 all out in 15.

By sharing the spoils on the day, Bucks are still second in the Group 3 table behind Berkshire with a good chance of reaching the Super 12s.

Their fate will be decided by their double-header against Wales NC at Marlow on Sunday July 5th.

Men's Head Coach Jason Harrison was pleased with the efforts: “In Game One, it was a brilliant performance all round and, as a group, we came through the day well under testing weather conditions.
