Alexei Kervezee retires after six seasons
26 Nov 2025

We are delighted to confirm that Men’s Captain Alexei Kervezee has been appointed Worcestershire CCC 2nd XI coach and has therefore made the decision to retire from National Counties cricket.

Alexei departs Bucks Cricket as a five-time winner - two NCCA Championships, two Eastern Division 1 titles, one Eastern Division 2 title - as well as two NCCA Showcase victories over Surrey and Leicestershire.

We caught up with Alexei to hear his reflections on his time at Bucks, the highlights he’ll never forget, and what’s next for him in his career.

Here’s what he had to say:

Q1. What was your biggest achievement in six seasons?

Answer: Winning the championship twice, once as a player and once as a captain.

Q2. What would your teammates say about Alexei Kervezee as a Bucks player and captain during his time?

Answer: Hopefully professional, talented, thoughtful, hardworking/driven, honest and caring.

Q3. Aside from obvious successes, what highlights will you take away from your career at Bucks, both personally and as a team?

Answer: Lifelong friends. That I leave at a time when the team and coaches together have the ability to win trophies in all formats. That I hopefully played a part in winning titles and games, but I leave Buckinghamshire in a really good place. That I made a positive impact on Buckinghamshire cricket on and off the field. I will miss spending time with the players, coaches and wider Buckinghamshire support on and off the field. Everyone was incredibly welcoming from day one and made me feel like I was one of theirs.

Q4. What’s next for you in your career, and what excitement does that bring you?

Answer: I’ve just taken over the head 2nd team/assistant coach role at Worcestershire. It fills me with immense pride and excitement that I’ve rejoined the club on a full time basis. I’m just really looking forward to getting stuck into my coaching career.

Bucks Cricket CIO’s Chairman, Ian Hodgson, said: "Alexei made his Bucks CCC debut in 2020 and became captain in 2025.

"He produced many match-winning individual performances for Bucks during those years, but at least as importantly, he was enormously influential for the whole squad with advice on and off the field.

"He never gave less than 100%, and it was an easy decision to appoint him captain on Tom Hampton’s retirement.

"His captaincy and own performances on the field with a young and inexperienced side in all three forms of the game were excellent and resulted in our winning the Championship for the second time in three years — a quite remarkable achievement, particularly bearing in mind that only six players played in both finals.

"Alexei was also throughout courteous to all and a wonderful example to our younger players.

"We wish him all success at Worcestershire."

Head of Performance, Jason Harrison added: "When we signed Alexei, we knew we were getting a player with that sought-after ingredient of ‘stardust’.

"He has delivered and more, being part of winning five titles and two showcase victories.

"I can’t thank him enough for what he has done for our county over the last six seasons and wish him well in his fantastic new role at Worcestershire."

Everyone at Bucks Cricket wishes Alexei all the very best for the future.
