Stanners hole in one
10 Oct 2022
Simon Stanway struck a perfect 7-iron to the 13th green but didn’t see it drop, first bounce into the hole. His playing partners though did witness the finish and rushed to congratulate him on this feat. Although Simon has played golf for many years this was his first hole-in-one.
Simon was playing in the Bucks Golf Day held at Burnham Beeches Golf Club on Friday 7th October which was followed by the Annual Dinner. Simon very generously put a bottle of wine on each table.
Twenty-eight golfers played in the day which was won by Greg Rowland with a score of 36 points playing off a handicap of 10. The Team competition was won by Serena Hodgson, Julie Sheffield, Sue Holdship and John Phillips.
At the dinner afterwards Peter Bowler, the former Somerset, Leicestershire and Derbyshire batsman, gave an excellent speech that amused and informed.
During the evening the BuCks 100 annual draw took place with Jonathan Royals winning the 1st prize of £400. The 2nd prize of £300 went to Paul Dean, who also won first prize in the raffle of a case of wine. (Rather a good evening for Paul!).  The 3rd prize of £200 was won by David Tuberville and the 4th prize of £100 went to Ian Hodgson.
This was the first time the Golf Day and Annual Dinner had been combined and held at Burnham Beeches.  It was deemed a great success and will be repeated next year.
